Money tips

The best way to get cash is to use your debit card at any bankomat. Your bank will charge a small fee (usually between EUR 1-2) and you´ll get the best exchange rate. Credit cards are also accepted at these ATM machines, but beware the high commissions. You can exchange cash, but be careful of doing it on the street and of high rates. If you´d like to exchange traveller´s cheques, there´s an American Express at Bayreuther Str. 37. Take care of your banking needs at the Reisebank at Zoo Bahnhof or Ostbahnhof.

Most places in the tourist areas will accept credit cards, but    it´s best to ask first.

When you get the bill, tell the waiter how much you want to pay - don´t leave the tip on the table. Restaurants usually include a service charge (Bedienung) in the bill. Normal tipping is 5-10%, but feel free to tip more if the service has been especially good.

Meal in a restaurant: 20 EUR
Fast food meal: 5 EUR
