Attractions in Tallinn

OrientationTallinn's old town is centred on Toompea, a hill which forms the tourist centre and where most of the sites and booming nightlife are centred. Raekoja Plats (the town hall square) is almost directly in the centre of the old town, and is the place where all the cafes and restaurants can be found. About a mile to the east of the old town is the park at Kadriog, which hosts some historic attractions and is a good place to chill out. The north of the old town is where the port and heliport can be found. Miles of deserted beaches are to the east of here

Sightseeing
The main attractions are all in the old town, which is listed by UNESCO due its preserved medieval character. The symbol of the city is the Town Hall, which dates from the 15th century. The square in front of the Town Hall also has many interesting sights. The city walls run for 4km and in their present shape have enclosed the old town from the 16th century. The Neitsitorn tower was used in the Middle Ages as a prison for prostitutes and is now a good place to get views over the old town. NightlifeThere are many different bars and pubs in Tallinn, most of them situated in the Old Town. Tallinn is especially rich in Irish pubs (Molly Maolones - near the Town Hall square, St. Patricks, near Hollywood, O'Malleys - on Viru street etc.). There are also several "no-special-theme" bars and pubs, a lot of them situated near Karja street. Tallinn is full of great clubs all of which stay open until 4 in the morning (Venus, Hollywood and Spirit are rated as the top three). Stripclubs are available for men and women and are very upmarket. Theme bars such as the Havana Club and the Nimega Bar are the main places to meet. And finally for the quirky there is the Depeche Mode bar dedicated to the band with the groups videos playing all night. |
