Wroclaw is the fourth largest city in Poland and the largest one in the west of the country. Its surface area is 293 km2, and it is inhabited by over 630 thousand of citizens. Wroclaw is a unique city, consisting of 12 islands connected with 117 bridges; it is situated on the Oder river and four of its tributaries: Ślęza, Oława, Bystrzyca and Widawa.. The contemporary Wroclaw is vibrant with life, it is a modern industrial and cultural centre, which strongly influences the development of the Lower Silesia and of this part of Europe. Thanks to its location on the Oder river, it has many picturesque small islands, and over two hundred bridges with countless number of small cafes, pubs and restaurants. Its compact well-laid out streets make Krakow a perfect city to explore on your own.
Sightseeing
Wroclaw's Old town alone boasts the second largest medieval marquet quere in Europe (the first prize goes to Krakow ), dozens of spectacular gothic churches, scores of bridges over scenic waterways, and plenty of lush parkland besides. Now cross the river onto Wroclaw's picturesque islands and, apart from plenty of strolling opportunities, you will find some of city's most precious jewels. The Ostrow Tumski n particular is a real treasure chest and tourists are drawn to it like bees to honey to admire the stunning spires that pierce Wroclaw's skyline north of the river. Meanwhile, if you're in Wroclaw for more than a couple of days, it's well worth venturing out East in search of hidden bounty. Don't miss the unique Panorama Raclawice, considered by many Poles as the symbol of the city.
Nightlife
It's difficult to mention Wroclaw and not go on to mention the word nightlife in the same breath. The city is quickly enhancing its already solid reputation as a party town and easily has enough pups and clubs to cater for a city twice its size.You'll find just about everything here: grungy basement pub; nice street-level drinking establishment; club on the top floor. Don't be surprised by the number or variety. Krakow is a university town; so expect lots of young people and places catering to their budgets. Some places can get snotty; allowing in only fit Polish women and rich foreign chaps. Dress appropriately if looking to go more upscale.
